Sunset Middle is an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) School committed to a whole child, inquiry based approach of teaching and learning. Every student at Sunset is an IB student and receives the benefits of learning through rigorous, relevant, and engaging courses. In an IBMYP school, students take 8 subject areas each year. Those include an incredible variety of music, art, and design classes, PE every year, and either Spanish or French each year. The IBMYP experience culminates with 8th grade students creating a Community Project where they research and choose a passion topic, determine how to engage in community service for that topic, and present their project to the school community.
In addition to our course offerings, our dedicated teachers sponsor a wide array of clubs and activities after school and during the school day to meet the needs and interests of all our students. To meet the unique needs of gifted and advanced learners, Sunset offers the Universal Middle School (UMS) Program. UMS is designed for gifted and advanced learners to create their own learning experiences in select classes in collaboration with our UMS teacher.
Paired with our diverse community, our holistic and relevant approach to middle school has created a place where there is something for everyone, where every student knows they matter, that they are somebody, and that they are developing the lifelong learning skills to be high school, college, and career ready. We are Sunset Strong!
