Longmont's Sunset Middle recently received its official International Baccalaureate, or IB, authorization following several years of work by the school to implement the program.
"This is one of the most exciting and rewarding transformations I've seen at Sunset," said Principal Dawn Macy.
She said the school started in 2012 with a feasibility study, deciding that the IB program fit well with the school's previous arts focus. Sunset also feeds into Niwot High, which offers the high school version of the IB program.

The Colorado Department of Education has identified Wednesday, October 5 as the official statewide October Count Day for the 2016-2017 school year. To comply with this state mandate and ensure maximum attendance, St. Vrain Valley Schools will have a full day of school with a normal start time on Wednesday, October 5 in place of the previously scheduled late start day.
Think back to when you were a student, back-to-school shopping, finding your classroom, and the exciting lessons that would soon fill your day. The first day of school jitters that were calmed by the friendly, welcoming face, and celebrating the “ah ha” moments when you finally figured out how to solve the problem. Then there was the time in kindergarten, when you went to the restroom but couldn’t remember the way back to your classroom. As panic set in, that friendly face walked around the corner and they knew exactly where your classroom was.
