It’s been exciting to watch the field of education evolve and change through the years. Over the last 22 years I’ve been practicing the art and science of education at Sunset Middle School (SMS) in the St. Vrain Valley School District.  I am grateful to be in a place of innovation and excellence.  Sunset has been a school that always looks for ways to challenge and enhance the education experience for students, with the outcome of growth and achievement through the passion of learning. Our school has grown from an Advanced Academics with a focus in the Arts to an authorized  International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP).   We also embrace the many world opportunities available to our students through the rich, global approaches to learning. Our mission has always been for the entire staff and community to come together to ensure students are fully engaged in learning to prepare them for their futures in college, and/or job readiness as participating citizens in an ever changing world.

Prior to my education career, I was fortunate to experience the world of business and the rigor expected for success. My business experience included owning and managing health clubs, working in the high-tech industry of worldwide customer service and spending over two years working at the Longmont Chamber of Commerce as Office Manager and then Programs Director.  Through these experiences, I learned that the key to all ventures is open, authentic communications with strong genuine relationships along with loving everyday what you choose to do.

Although I was born in Minnesota, I am from Arizona, I grew up in Camp Verde. (Go Cowboys!) I graduated with a BS in Speech Communications from Northern Arizona University. While I started my career path in business, I knew all my life that I wanted to be a teacher someday. I completed my teaching degree, earned my Master's degree and then a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at the University of Northern Colorado.

I believe it takes energy and commitment to stay the course, reinvent when necessary and understand that each generation is different than the last. It’s a wonderful, exhilarating time to be part of the experience of growing and learning in schools. People make the world go round; together we can work in partnership and and make great things to happen for our children in education.  My door is always open for a visit, to share ideas, and always to work on what is best for students.
